I enjoy the Belgariad series ( 5 books-Belgariad ) followed by the Mallorean ( also 5 booksMallorean and follows the Belgariad series) by David Eddings. Raymond E. Feist had a four book series Riftwar Saga- starts with Magician Apprentice.

For a more serious read, Ismael by Daniel Quinn and there is the The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff

ari marmell's mick oberon series is pretty enjoyable - fae gumshoe, anyone? i also love steven brust's work; agyar and jhereg stand out among my favs. who fears death by nnedi okorafor was epic as hell, as was the stone sky trilogy by n.k. jemisin.


edit: lol did not realize this thread had died years ago. still stand by my recs, tho! ;)
